Have I Ever Told You About…

The Perfect Day in Galway?

Whenever I tell people about our trip to Ireland, they immediately ask about the weather. Were you cold? Did it rain? Did you even see the sun? I usually surprise them when I start describing the real experience we had.

Chasing the Irish Countryside

Our trip was in March. Some days were chilly, but only one day felt like “weather,” and even then, it was beautiful. We began in Dublin, stayed a few days, and then set off in our tiny manual transmission car to explore the country at a slow, scenic pace.

We spent a day or two in each town, taking winding country roads instead of highways. Rolling green hills, stone walls, and quiet lanes became our constant companions. Driving on the opposite side of the road was nerve-wracking at times, especially when small trucks appeared around a bend, but the scenery made every heartbeat worth it. Ireland’s landscapes are breathtaking, and a little danger only added to the thrill.

A Sunlit Walk Along the River Corrib

One day stands out above all the rest. Our last day in Galway dawned with full sunshine. We decided to take a walk and ended up at the mouth of the River Corrib, where it flows into the North Atlantic.

The waterfront was alive. Colorful shops spilled onto cobblestone streets, grassy patches invited picnics, and the walkways that hugged the water were filling up with people sitting along their edges. We started with jackets, but soon warmed enough to shed them, enjoying a perfect spring day in the low to mid-60s.

People arrived in droves. Families spread blankets for picnics, friends lounged on rocks and steps, and children ran and played in every open space. Adults shared bottles of wine and pints of beer. Local pubs sent the aroma of sizzling food into the air, and music floated across the water in scattered melodies.

Music, Laughter, and Spring in Galway

A small group of young men brought instruments, and suddenly live music erupted. The tunes were spontaneous, joyful, and infectious. Everyone swayed, clapped, or danced along.

I asked a few locals about the scene. Each told me the same thing. This was no festival or planned event. It was simply the first warm sunny day of the season. Spring had arrived, and Galway celebrated in its own way. Jackets, shoes, and socks were peeled off as the day warmed up. Music soared, and laughter echoed across the waterfront.

A Perfect Day in Galway

After days exploring castles, tea shops, ancient churches, breweries, museums, and cozy restaurants, this riverside scene felt completely unique. We laughed, danced, and wandered through the revelry, feeling part of the community. That day, among hundreds of people soaking in the sun, music, and life itself, was a perfect day in Galway.
